Baskey charms at VOICE luncheon
Putting various props on to illustrate her points, Baskey at times wore a tiara, a half-slip to simulate silky blonde hair, a paper doctor’s gown, and finally a full-scale color explosion of mismatched garments that also included a fruit and vegetable-laden hat.“You’ve got to lighten up,网站推广,” she said as her alter ego Ida Mae Fudpucker. Not all of her presentation was quite so silly, however. Describing a turbulent two years of Hydraulic pump her own life in which she had a nice house, great job, wonderful marriage, drove a Lexus and her family was healthy and within 18 months or so had lost the house, husband, car and her father, she told the audience that all things in life, good and bad, will pass.
Finding the advantage or the humor in a dark situation and keeping a positive attitude determines how well you’ll get along before it passes, she said.“People with a sense of humor have a way of floating along, like a cork,” she said. Those without a sense of humor absorb too much and sink like sponges, she said.“Laughter is totally undervalued and underestimated as a way of helping ourselves,” Baskey said. She described crying as Hydraulic pump “physical therapy,” but said that following the pity party a person needs to give herself permission to laugh again.Laughing at yourself isn’t about knocking yourself, but is about finding something about yourself to appreciate, she said.
“Learn to laugh at yourself — everybody else is anyway,” she said, to the amusement of the audience.Baskey also came prepared for her audience, and joked with the mayor, Brad Haney, Raymond Linex, Faith Holt and Dick Aldama, who will be the grand marshal of the Derrick Days parade this Saturday. On a more serious note, Lynda Sloan explained that VOICE has had a big year by opening an office in the Waco area, and taking on Hydraulic pump a college-preparation program for local high school students. Fundraisers, such as the luncheon and the art show Thursday afternoon, help pay for the local programs that support children and families, Sloan said.
